- Current Sensor Module MAX471 DC Blue
- Current + Volt
Features
- Charge and Discharge Monitoring: Supports bidirectional current measurement, allowing detection of both charging and discharging currents.
- High Side Current Sensing: Measures current on the high side of the load without interrupting the ground path.
- Integrated Precision Shunt: Built in 35 milliohm internal sense resistor for accurate current measurement.
- Wide Operating Voltage: Supports current sensing across a supply voltage range from 3V to 36V.
- Flexible Current Range: Measures up to 3A using the internal shunt resistor, with support for higher currents using external resistors on MAX472.
- Microcontroller Friendly Interface: Provides analog voltage output compatible with standard microcontroller ADC inputs.
- Positive Voltage Output: Output voltage remains positive regardless of current direction.
- Low Power Consumption: Suitable for battery powered and low power designs.
Principle of Work
The MAX471 and MAX472 are bidirectional high side current sense amplifiers designed to measure current flow without disturbing ground connections. The internal shunt resistor generates a voltage proportional to the load current, which is amplified and converted into a proportional output signal. An open collector SIGN output indicates the direction of current flow, allowing differentiation between charging and discharging conditions. The devices operate with supply currents below 100 microampere and feature a shutdown mode with extremely low current consumption.
Input Connections
- INPUT plus RS plus: Connects to the positive terminal of the power supply or load source.
- INPUT minus RS minus: Connects to the positive terminal of the load.
- GND: Common ground reference connected to the system ground.
Output Connections
- OUT: Analog voltage output proportional to the sensed current with a scale of 1 volt per ampere.
- GND: Ground reference for the output signal.
Applications
- Battery charge and discharge monitoring
- Power management and distribution systems
- Motor control and automation
