Principle of Operation

The TP4056 module converts a regulated 5V USB input into a controlled charging current for a single lithium-ion or LiPo battery cell. The TP4056 uses a constant-current/constant-voltage charging process.

TP4056 Lithium Cell Charger Module Circuit Working Explanation

During the initial charging stage, the module supplies the programmed charging current to the battery. As the battery voltage approaches approximately 4.2V, the charger transitions to constant-voltage operation and gradually reduces the charging current. Charging terminates automatically when the current falls to the termination level defined by the TP4056. The charging current can be adjusted by changing the onboard programming resistor, allowing the module to be configured for batteries with different capacities.

Important Notes

  • Do not reverse the battery polarity. Reverse battery connection can damage the TP4056 IC.
