Expansion Shield MEGA Sensor Shield V2 for MEGA 2560

The Arduino MEGA Sensor Shield V2 offers a significant increase in I/O pins compared to standard Arduino boards, featuring 54 digital pins and 16 analog pins. This shield provides dedicated connectors for external devices such as SD cards, Bluetooth modules, and more. It also includes the option to power all the "V" pins on digital I/O 3-pin groups from an external power supply instead of the Arduino’s +5V, which is ideal for powering large numbers of servos or other devices. The analog 3-pin groups continue to use the Arduino +5V for better noise immunity.

Power Supply Options:

  • Jumper ON: +5V power comes from the Arduino, limited to about 300 mA.
  • Jumper OFF: +5V power is supplied externally via the blue terminal strip. External power ground must also be connected to the terminal strip. This supports higher current for servos, relays, and other devices (commonly +5V or up to +6V if all devices are rated for it).

The 6-pin SD Card connector uses SPI communication. Using the MEGA Sensor Shield simplifies wiring and increases reliability. The Arduino Mega is preferred over the Uno for SD card interfacing due to its larger SRAM (8KB vs 2KB), which is necessary for buffering SD card data.

  1. Close Serial Monitor, unplug USB, wait ~10 seconds (capacitors discharge).
  2. Plug back USB, reopen Serial Monitor, press reset button.
