How It Works

chipQuik uses a unique low-temperature alloy and flux to make existing solder easy to reflow. The special alloy melts at only 58°C (136°F), allowing the original solder to mix with chipQuik solder and stay molten longer. Once the solder is fluid, components “float” off the PCB without damage.

The Process

  1. Apply a small amount of chipQuik flux to the pins of the component.
  2. Add chipQuik solder to the pins to form a thin bead around the leads.
  3. Apply heat to keep the mixture molten.
  4. Once all pins are heated, gently lift or slide the component off the board.
  5. Clean the pads using solder wick and alcohol.

Features

  • Quickly removes even the smallest SMD components.
  • Reduces risk of thermal damage with low-temperature alloy.
  • Works on both surface-mount and stubborn DIP packages.
  • No expensive rework station required.

Ideal For

  • Engineers and technicians
  • Field repairs and on-site work
  • Hobbyists and electronics enthusiasts
  • Component salvaging and prototyping

Contents of SMD Kit

  • Enough flux and solder to remove approximately 8–10 SMD components
  • ChipQuik low-temperature solder

Notes

  • chipQuik dramatically simplifies SMD removal without damaging delicate ICs.
  • It is especially useful where traditional rework stations are impractical or unavailable.
  • Cleanup is simple with solder wick and alcohol.
