Raspberry Pi 4 Model B Desktop Kit

The Raspberry Pi Power over Ethernet (PoE) HAT is an official accessory designed to provide both power and network connectivity to your Raspberry Pi through a single Ethernet cable. Compatible with the Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ and Raspberry Pi 4 Model B, it allows users to simplify their setup by removing the need for a separate USB power supply. This makes it an ideal solution for applications such as remote installations, network kiosks, digital signage, and IoT deployments where space and cable management are critical.

This latest revision of the PoE HAT features an enhanced L-C power filter, which improves stability and noise performance, ensuring reliable operation even under continuous network loads. The board complies fully with the IEEE 802.3af Power over Ethernet standard, enabling it to work seamlessly with any PoE-enabled network switch or power-sourcing equipment (PSE).

Features:

  • True Power over Ethernet: Delivers both power and data via a single Ethernet cable, reducing cable clutter and simplifying installations.
  • High Compatibility: Designed for Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ and Raspberry Pi 4 Model B.
  • Compliant with IEEE 802.3af: Works with all standard PoE switches and injectors that follow the IEEE 802.3af specification.
  • Integrated Cooling Fan: Includes a software-controlled 25mm fan connected via I²C that automatically adjusts speed based on the CPU temperature.
  • Improved Stability: Built-in L-C filter minimizes voltage ripple and ensures stable power delivery to the Raspberry Pi and connected peripherals.
  • Easy Installation: Mounts directly onto the GPIO and 4-pin PoE headers with the included spacers and screws — no soldering or modifications required.
  • Compact Design: Maintains full access to all ports and connectors on your Raspberry Pi.
  • Reliable Operation: Ideal for 24/7 use in network servers, smart home hubs, and embedded systems.

Technical Specifications:

  • Input Power: IEEE 802.3af PoE (37V–57V DC, up to 15.4W)
  • Output Power: 5V DC up to 2.5A to Raspberry Pi
  • Interface: 40-pin GPIO header + 4-pin PoE header
  • Cooling: 25mm I²C-controlled fan with automatic temperature regulation
  • Board Dimensions: 65mm × 56mm × 15mm (approx.)
  • Operating Temperature: 0°C to 50°C typical

Additional Hardware Required:

  • Raspberry Pi 3 Model B+ or Raspberry Pi 4 Model B
  • Ethernet cable (Cat5e or higher recommended)
  • Power-sourcing equipment (PSE) such as a PoE switch or PoE injector supporting IEEE 802.3af

Installation Guide:

  1. Attach the included spacers to the four mounting holes on the Raspberry Pi.
  2. Align the PoE HAT with the 40-pin GPIO header and the 4-pin PoE connector on the Pi.
  3. Gently press down to ensure both headers are firmly connected.
  4. Connect the Ethernet cable from your PoE-enabled switch or injector to the RJ45 port on the Raspberry Pi.
  5. Your Raspberry Pi will now power on automatically through the Ethernet connection.

Removal Instructions:

  1. Power off and disconnect the Ethernet cable.
  2. Carefully lift the PoE HAT upward evenly from both sides to avoid bending the GPIO pins.

Software Compatibility Notes:

Ensure your Raspberry Pi OS is up to date to support automatic fan control and thermal management features. No hardware modification or additional driver installation is required. The HAT communicates with the system firmware via I²C to adjust fan speed dynamically based on temperature readings, ensuring quiet and efficient cooling.

Applications:

  • Network-based Raspberry Pi clusters or NAS systems
  • Smart home and IoT edge devices
  • Digital signage and display controllers
  • Remote servers or kiosks powered via PoE
  • Industrial monitoring systems
