Principle of Operation

The solder wick works through capillary action. When heated with a soldering iron, the solder on the PCB melts and is drawn into the copper braid structure. The embedded no-clean flux improves wetting between the solder and copper strands, allowing the wick to absorb molten solder efficiently.

During operation, the wick is placed directly over the unwanted solder joint while heat is applied through the soldering iron tip. Once the solder is absorbed, the used section of the braid is removed and a fresh section is exposed for the next operation.
